Medical-grade disposable gloves must conform to BS EN 455 (Parts 1–4) and maintain an Acceptable Quality Level (AQL) of 1.5 or lower to guarantee freedom from pinholes. They must also carry UKCA or CE certification for clinical examination procedures across NHS trusts and private practices.

BS EN 455 certifies gloves as medical devices designed to prevent cross-contamination between patient and clinician. Conversely, BS EN ISO 374 classifies gloves as Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to protect the wearer against hazardous chemicals, cytotoxic agents, and micro-organisms.
